US Consumer Spending Falls in May by Most This Year

US consumer spending declined in May by the most since the start of the year as personal consumption expenditures fell 0.3% after adjusting for inflation. The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation metric, the so-called core personal consumption expenditures price index, which excludes food and energy items, rose 0.2% from April and advanced 2.7% from a year ago.
